The Management of Correctional Service, Ijebu-Ode (CSI) under its Sports Committee led by the Director of Sports, Asst.Sup.1 Adebanjo Simeon talked about the staging of the 2023 inmates Football Competition inside the Service Sport ground.
Speaking during the meeting with members of the Service Sports Committee, Mr. Adebanjo revealed the competition which was postponed to commence in October, 2023 due to the raining season has reached Semi-final stage. The first match would be played on Wednesday 15th, November, 2023 between Team CM versus C Ward.
The second Semi would be played on Thursday 17th November between Team G.3 and G.1 while the Third place match is scheduled for 30th November, 2023.
To reach this stage, there were matches played between Groups CM; G.1; F.2 and F.3/F.4 against Groups G.3; C Ward; G.2 and F.1.
Continuing, he revealed why it was necessary to hold the football competition; To keep the inmates busy. For football Scouts to discover those with required talents for other world competitions; To create cordiality amongst the inmates and Officers of the Centre; etc.
Narrating the challenges of the competition on the organisers, he pointed that the Service is not a profit making organisation, therefore are the problems of sponsorship, financial encouragement and support. He called for the support of philanthropists with cash and kinds who could help transform the inmates to better citizens after their tenure through the discovery of talents.
Mr. Adebanjo invited all people to be their guests on December 1st, 2023 when the final match would be played. "The competition has been planned to be of standard and interesting for attendees to enjoy.
There are other sporting activities played by the inmates which are Table Tennis, Snooker, and the rest as provided.
