The contract for the reconstruction of Ayepe Road that passes through Sagamu and Ikenne will soon be awarded by the Ogun State government.
This was disclosed at the 47th Ereke day celebration held at Ikenne in Ikenne local government area.
Ikenne township is important in Nigeria, due to the presence of dignitaries that have played important roles in the nation’s development.
The Governor of Ogun State, Prince Dapo Abiodun stated this in Ikenne ,that the siting of the Gateway agro cargo international airport in the local government, has made it a cynosure of all eyes and the airport would be ready for commissioning to kick-start flight operations before the end of the year.
Ikenne has an area of 144 km2 and a population of 118,735 at the 2006 census and has produced prominent Nigerians who are icon to state and national development.
Some of them are Late Chief Obafemi Awolowo, a Nigerian nationalist and statesman who played a key role in Nigeria’s independence movement between (1957-1960).
Chief Awolowo founded the Yoruba nationalist group Egbe Omo Oduduwa and he was the first Leader of Government Business and Minister of Local Government and Finance, and first Premier of the Western Region under Nigeria’s parliamentary system, from 1952 to 1959 .
Another is Former Vice President Yemi Osibajo and Mr Kunle Soname, a business mogul.
