By Wole Elegbede

Ondo State governor and All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate, Rotimi Akeredolu, has eulogized APC governors and particularly singled out the immediate past governor of Ogun State and current Senator representing Ogun Central Senatorial District, Senator Ibikunle Amosun, for standing by him in the electioneering campaign leading to his victory in last Saturday's governorship election in the state.

In a widely circulated video on the internet, where Akeredolu gave his post-election speech, he said was highly elated by the show of support and camaraderie by his colleague-governors.

He stated he was grateful to all those who stood by him like Rock of Gibraltar “and other governors, particularly my own very good friend, immediate past governor of Ogun State, SIA, Oye Omo Ajiri, Ibikunle Amosun”.

The epic contest was won by Akeredolu, fondly called Aketi by his political admirers. INEC Returning Officer, Prof Idowu Olayinka, declared the candidate of All Progressives Congress(APC) winner with 292,830 votes.

JUNE 12 AS DEMOCRACY DAY:  FORMER LEADERS NOT HONEST WITH DEMOCRATIC HISTORY – MAFE

The Lawmaker representing Sagamu Constituency I Hon Asiwaju Yinka Mafe has declared that all leaders who have attained exalted position of Head of State or President in Nigeria after the June 12 debacle simply decided to walk down the lesser-glory side of Nigeria’s democratic history.

Asiwaju said it was not arguable that a glorious man would one day recognise the popular wish of Nigerians as expressed on June 12th 1993, acknowledge the truth behind such historical legacy and be humble enough to do justice to the immortalisation of the day and chief actor whose blood became the bedrock upon which Nigeria’s democracy stands today.

Hon Yinka Mafe therefore congratulates Nigerians, the family of Late Chief M.K.O. Abiola, the civil society groups who fought tirelessly to ensure June 12 was recognised, students and youth movements, the women group and all activists who are still alive to witness the victory of democracy by this historical declaration of June 12 as rightful democracy day in Nigeria by the Muhammadu Buhari led government.

The Lawmaker said history will not forget those who have lost their lives in the struggle for actualisation of June 12 mandate won popularly with landslide victory by bashorun M.K.O. Abiola but which was annulled by the wicked military junta.

“I am especially happy that former Head of State Ibrahim Babangida is still alive to see history affirm what he upturned 25 years after.

President Olusegun Obasanjo was the biggest beneficiary of the June 12 struggle that paved way for consensus of the military cabal’s resolution to allow a Yoruba man become President in order to avoid imminent collapse of the nation then, but he failed to recognise Abiola’s sacrifice and thus ignored the history.

The decision by Buhari administration to confer the highest honour of the land posthumously on Late Bashorun Abiola GCFR will never be forgotten in the history of Nigeria. This is a heroic feat that PDP led government failed to achieve in its entire 16 years in power”,  Asiwaju Yinka Mafe said.

Barr Mafe concluded by commending President Buhari for his courage and selflessness, affirming that his victory for another term seems non-negotiable with his feat of performance as he gradually takes Nigeria to a desirable status in the committee of nations.

Signed:

Hon. Asiwaju Yinka Mafe
Leader, Ogun State House of Assembly

Children become the happiness of the society and home as well as future of the country. Mafe

As Nigeria joins the rest of the world to mark the 2018 Children’s Day today, Hon. Ashiwaju Yinka Mafe has averred that children become the happiness of the society and home as well as future of the country.

We can not ignore their involvement and contribution in the life of parents, teachers and other related people all through the life. In his goodwill message to commemorate the 2018 Children’s Day and felicitate with children across the country. Mafe noted that Children Day gives the country an opportunity to celebrate the young ones and to fully consider the important place they occupy in the heart of the nation."

He said, "Children are liked by everyone and without children, life becomes very boring and upset. They are blessed by the God and conquer our hearts with their beautiful eyes, innocent activities and smiles. Children’s Day is celebrated every year to pay tribute to all the children all over the World."

It is celebrated at different dates in various countries however in Nigeria, it is being celebrated for years on 27th of May.

The celebration of this day reminds us to renew our commitment towards children’s welfare including their proper health, care, teaching, etc.

The Ogun State Majority Leader said "It is an occasion to appropriate the qualities of childhood. Children are considered as the building blocks of the strong nation. Children are very small but have the capability to change the nation positively. They are the responsible citizens of the tomorrow as the development of the country lies in their hands."

"Children’s Day celebration also reminds us of their rights of which they are getting benefits or not. Children are leaders of tomorrow so they need to get respect, special care and protection from their parents, teachers and other members of the family." he said.

Some are being abused in many ways in our nation by their family members, relatives, neighbours or other strangers. Meanwhile, activists in the country have demanded firm action against child offenders across the country. They all frowned at the persistent attacks on minors who are daily molested sexually in the country . Mafe  added

Children’s day celebration make us remind about the importance of the children in the family, society and country. Following are the common rights of the children which they must get:

They should get proper care and love by the parents and family.

They should get healthy food, clean clothes and security.

They should get a healthy living environment where they can feel safe at home, school or other places.

They should get proper and good level of education.

They should be provided special care when disabled or sick.

Let us join our hands together and take a pledge to secure the present and future of the country’s leaders to make a beautiful nation

  Police Rearrest Kogi Jailbreak Suspects
File photo

Police have rearrested the last of the suspects who reportedly escaped from custody in Lokoja the Kogi State capital last week.
The suspect, Kabiru Saidu, also known as Osama, is one of six suspects who escaped from the custody of the ‘A’ division of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad.
A police source who pleaded anonymity because he was not authorized to talk to journalists said that the suspect was arrested by detectives in Bauchi on Sunday night and taken to Abuja, the nation’s capital.
The police source confirmed that all the suspects who broke out of jail where they were being held pending their court appearance, have been rearrested.
Saidu and the other suspects had been arrested for various crimes claiming they were being armed and funded by the Senator representing Kogi West, Dino Melaye.
Following their escape on the eve of their arraignment, the lawmaker, Senator Melaye challenged the Inspector General of Police, Mr Ibrahim Idris to produce the escapees or face a lawsuit.
Since the rearrest of the criminals a few days ago, the lawmaker had yet to comment on the matter during a Senate plenary last week.
It is widely believed that the suspect allegedly planned and coordinated the escape, with the assistance of some police officers.
His initial escape from the cell has led to the immediate removal of the then Commissioner of Police, Mr Ali Janga by the IGP.
The police boss also changed the state Commander of Federal Special Anti-Robbery Squad (FSARS) for negligence, dereliction of duty and gross misconduct.
He also redeployed the Divisional Police Officer ‘A’ Division, Lokoja, where the suspects escaped, and other police officers implicated in the escape for the same offence.
He consequently directed the Commissioner of Police, Federal Operations at the Force Headquarters, Mr Esa Ogbu, to immediately proceed and take over as the new police boss in the north-central state.

BREAKING NEWS... FG Releases More Names Of Alleged Looters
The Federal Government on Sunday released more names of people who have allegedly looted the nation’s treasury.

The Federal Government said the list of alleged looters which was released earlier was based on verifiable facts, including the amount involved, the date the amount in question was collected and from where it was taken.
The Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed released the list in a statement made available to Channels Television. He said those complaining that the initial list was too short did not understand that it was strategically released as a teaser.

He referred to his earlier statement that the list was just ‘a tip of the iceberg’ and slammed the PDP for challenging the Federal Government to name the looters.
”At the press conference where the list was released, I did say it was a tip of the iceberg. Apparently, this does not mean anything to people whose style is to comment on issues they barely understand, or just to shoot down anything coming from the government.
“The Federal Government has a large number of alleged looters on its list. What was the PDP expecting when it challenged the FG to name the looters of the public treasury under the party’s watch? Did the PDP actually believe that the massive looting under its watch was a joke?, he queried.
This second list of alleged looters released by the Federal Government contains 24 names of alleged looters.
Alhaji Mohammed said the Federal Government will neither be intimidated nor blackmailed into silence, adding that it will also not rest until all those who looted the public treasury have been brought to justice.

See the second list of alleged looters released by the Federal Government below…

The Federal Government had on Friday released names of six persons alleged to have looted the nation’s treasury. The list contained names of PDP Chairman, Uche Secondus who is alleged to have taken N200 million only from the office of the NSA.
The first list of alleged looters had generated reactions from many of those named, including Secondus who demanded an apology and the sum of N1.5billion as compensation. A former National Publicity Secretary of the PDP, Mr Olisa Metuh whose name was also on the first list had accused the All Progressives Congress (APC) led Federal Government of intimidating him.

  FG Releases Names Of ‘Looters’
The Federal Government has released a list of some of those who have allegedly looted the nation’s treasury.

The Minister of Information, Lai Mohammed, released the list during a press conference in Lagos on Friday.
Mohammed said the individuals include officials in the past government.
The names in the list revealed by the Federal Government include PDP chieftains who are currently being tried for corruption and financial crimes.
“The PDP has challenged us to name the looters under their watch. They said they did not loot the treasury. Well, I am sure they know that the treasury was looted dry under their watch. Yet they decided to grandstand. This shows the hollowness of their apology,” Mohammed said as he released the names.

Find the list below and the allegations against them by the Federal Government…

  1.    PDP Chairman Uche Secondus.
Allegation: On the 19th of Feb 2015, he took N200 million only from the office of the NSA.

  1. Former PDP Financial Secretary.
Allegation: On the 24th of Oct 2014, he took N600 million only from the office of former NSA.

  1. Former National Publicity Secretary Olisah Metuh.
On trial for allegedly collecting N1.4bn from the office of former NSA.

  1. Dr Raymond Dokpesi, Chairman of DAAR Communications.
On trial for allegedly taking N2.1 billion from the office of the former NSA.

  1. Former SSA to President Goodluck Jonathan, Dudafa Waripamo-Owei
On trial, over N830 million allegedly kept in accounts of four different companies.

  1. Former President Goodluck Jonathan’s Cousin Robert Azibaola
On Thursday, a Federal High Court ruled that he has a case to answer for allegedly collecting $40 million from the office of former NSA.

The decision by the APC-led government to reveal the names of the alleged looters and the funds allegedly stolen is in response to the opposition party, PDP’s, challenge to the government to name those alleged to have looted the country and destroyed the economy.
Mohammed said this list is just a tip of the iceberg, and the APC did not make these cases up as some of them currently have cases in court.
“They are in court and the records are available. Some of the people on this list are seeking to plea bargain, and that is a fact.
“We insist that Nigeria was looted blind under the watch of the PDP and that the starting point in tendering an apology is for them to return the loot,” he said.
Mohammed said further that the APC will not stop talking about the alleged looting by the PDP.
“We will not stop talking about the massive looting by the PDP. They brought Nigeria to this sorry pass. We are now looking around for loans to build infrastructure, and they ask us not to talk about it. We will talk about it,” he said.

Nigerians Have Accepted Our Apology, PDP Replies Tinubu
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has told a former governor of Lagos State, Mr Bola Tinubu, that Nigerians have accepted its apology.

The party said this in a statement on Thursday by its National Publicity Secretary Kola Ologbondiyan, hours after the former governor called on Nigerian’s not to accept the apology of the party.

PDP National Chairman, Uche Secondus, had on Monday apologised to Nigerians for what he called that mistakes of the party prior to the 2015 general elections.
In his reaction at a colloquium, Tinubu, who is the national leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), said, “Dear Nigerians, don’t take their (PDP) apology. They lied, they falsified for 16 years, they made fake promises.”
The PDP spokesman, however, cautioned the APC chieftain to stop playing god, saying Nigerians have the faculty and freedom to determine the leadership that best suit their desires.
He also advised him not to allow himself to be used a second time, claiming Tinubu still bears a gross part of the blame for the enthronement of President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration.

Ologbondiyan noted further that rather than being a damage of the PDP, the remarks of the APC leader at the colloquium ended up amplifying an admittance of the failure of the present administration.
He said without listening to the prompting of any politician, Nigerians across have taken the liberty to accept PDP’s apology which was made patriotically in the overall interest of national healing, reconciliation, unity and cohesion.
The statement read, “The PDP watched with amusement as Asiwaju Tinubu struggled with words to appease President Buhari and give him assurances that he can win a second term election in the face of mass failure, both in governance and in their discredited, rejected and troubled platform.
“It was a direct admittance of failure and indictment on President Buhari’s administration, when Asiwaju pointedly told the President that the ship of the nation, under his (Buhari’s) watch, still needs to be rescued, almost three years down the line.
“It is tragic that Asiwaju had to tutor his visitor, who had no policy direction since his election in 2015, by engaging in a revision of the programmes and policies of the PDP, such as the leasing system, the mortgage and pension schemes which boosted the economy and directly impacted on the lives of Nigerians.”
Ahead of the general elections in 2019, the PDP maintained that the APC government is incompetent and lacks the ideas of how to move the nation forward.
While the party congratulates Tinubu on his birthday, it asked him to study the current atmosphere of Nigerian politics, stressing that Nigerians have since rejected the APC government.
